This Claro Walnut desk with black handmade cabriole legs in Brookline is a really great example of the unique fusion of design elements in which Cannon Hill Woodworking specializes. This is the future of instant classics in desk designs, and we make them better than anyone. Hand flattened, hand sanded, live edge slab top with hand carved cabriole legs and two pen drawers. The design came together after a lengthy sourcing process to hand pick the best materials for an exquisite color palette. It was an enjoyable design collaboration with the client that included hand drawings and computer specs. The client, like so many people these days, has found herself working from home.

The slab was originally wider and it was hard for the client to visualize her exact desk top coming out of it. We do this kind of thing every day so it's easy for us to visualize the way we'd cut it just from a photograph. If you're going to spend thousands of dollars on a walnut slab, you need to be able to trust that your builder knows exactly what they're doing. You don't want to get a call at the last minute that the design or dimensions need to be changed. The client actually lived nearby, so we loaded the slab and took it her her. Out of the back of the van we used blue tape and pencil and we marked out how the desktop would be cut.

Here's another desk we did in walnut with a single slab top:

The cabriole legs are handmade and we gave the client four different designs based on photos she'd sent and built the one she selected. This desk is a beauty and was a lot of fun to make. So unique to this client, and so carefully thought through that the delivery is all that much more meaningful. Almost triumphant.
