We'd done a piece of furniture already for this client in a two-tone look. We'd made him a desk with a walnut top and cabinet which had oak drawer fronts. He wanted to maintain the theme of the two tone look on this custom built dresser but change up the materials. We'd always felt that cherry and maple would go together as well as oak and walnut and we were' really glad to have a chance to try it out on this dresser.
We sent him design options to fit his space requirements. We were considering three or four rows of drawers, the possibility of a row with smaller drawers. We considered a raised base or not, an overhang on the top shelf, and different drawer pull styles. We want every element of design to be thoroughly discussed and agreed upon so there are not surprises.
The drawer boxes are solid maple with dovetail joints and they're on high quality undermount drawer slides. The pulls are handmade. The drawers themselves are 1/2 inch solid maple, soft close. The drawer fronts are inch thick solid cherry. The top is 1 1/4 inches thick, solid maple, and has a 1/4 overhang.
THERE ARE NO SCREWS in this dresser. It's really handmade wood furniture with real hardwood joinery. It's build sturdy, it's a heavy piece of furniture, it is built to last. This dresser will be kept for 100 years. You will never see it on the side of the road like a store bought dresser. This dresser is about 44" tall and 32" wide and 22" deep.
