Sometimes, a client will come in with a very specific design idea in mind, and it’s up to us to turn that idea into a custom piece of furniture that can anchor a room in their home for decades, or generations. This white oak dining table is the product of exactly that process. Our client wanted to see a square steel beam pass through a chunky oak plate to create an “X” base of a type very different than what we often build.
This is a classically beautiful walnut top with an oil finish that has quite a statement for a base. The twisting steel pedestal was the idea of the client, and we provided a CAD to get it right, and welded it custom to for this particular table. The base has a black powder coat. Top has an oil finish. The table now lives in a newly remodeled home in Wayland.
Yea, so the name of our company is Cannon Hill Woodworking, but that doesn't mean we can't orchestrate another type of table, because our steel work is all done in house and we can contract local companies for glass or stone work. So this table is a 72" round glass top, a huge, heavy 1/2" thick piece of tempered glass. So this base needed to be big, strong, and a serious visual centerpiece because the glass top is obviously see through.
Bastogne walnut is a hybrid of the California Claro and English walnut. These trees aren't cultivated, rather they occur naturally in the wild. They are rarely found in general, and very rarely seen on the East Coast. They grow to be very large. We've actually made a pretty magnificent 12' Bastogne walnut table previously to working on this disc cut "cookie" as it's called. The disc cut on this custom coffee table is approximately 31" around. The walnut cut came to us with some abnormality to the shape that we cut out and blended to make a more uniform shape for the coffee table top.
These are seven teak tables we made for a restaurant that is being built in Revere, overlooking the water. Four of the tables are dining height and three are coffee table height. As with many of our projects, on these bases we started with a photograph and we came up with specs and built the bases custom for our clients. These bases have a black zinc powder coat to ensure the most rust proof coating available for seaside furniture.
This 34" round walnut table top can seat three comfortably, and can be pulled out from the wall to squeeze four diners if serving platters are kept on the kitchen bar counters. We make tables of all shapes and sized to fit your space. The clients in this apartment adjacent to the Boston Common now have a nice walnut table for intimate meals by the window, where they had nothing before.
This walnut round is in a North End apartment. Even though it is only 32 inches in diameter, it can seat four to a meal if the serving dishes are kept on the kitchen island countertops. Its metal pedestal base was custom-made. The coffee table is 36 x 36 inches and is made of two bookmatched walnut slabs. It also has custom-made metal legs.
